With the holiday season upon us, the Topstep coaches decided to have a little fun and talk about some of their favorite holiday movies. It wasn’t all fun and games though, this week’s episode starts with each coach discussing which markets they are currently trading and their intentions for the end of the year.
This is the time of year when market participation is usually at its lowest point. As a result, both smaller retail traders and bigger institutional investors are shutting it down and taking time away from the markets before the new year. So, what does this mean for you?
You should know how the markets tend to act when the volume dries up and liquidity becomes an issue that you don’t typically have to deal with. If you’re not used to taking on additional risk when the trading environment changes in your favorite market, then it might not be a bad idea for you to take a break also.
This is no time to be a hero. It’s unlikely for a trader of any skill level to turn their year around in the final two weeks of the year. So, if that’s something you had in mind, we encourage you to sit down and give some serious thought as to what your expectations really are.
On the flip side, if you’ve had a decent year so far, then it might be in your best interest to cash out and start preparing for next year. Ending the year on a high note and starting the new year feeling fresh and rejuvenated will help you set a positive tone going forward.
Whether you decide to continue trading through the holidays or pack it up for the year, try to remember, this is not the time to stray from your trading plan and start shooting from the hip. Instead, trust the process, and good things will happen.
Trade well!
